[ars] numerica accompanies LASELDI’s and the University of Franche-Comté's Multimedia departments in its teaching and research activities for the establishment of a shared virtual reality platform.
This platform will allow for the exchange of techniques, scientific research and the development of multimedia content between the parties, through the production and research of the Laboratory's students and faculty.
This platform aims at presenting the work and accomplishments which immerse the public in a virtual world. The multimedia work will be performed by students of Institution's Master's in Multimedia Products and Services (Produits et Services Multimédia (PSM)) in connection with:
- Lessons in Digital Art that are part of PSM training;
- Some collective projects (Rhizome) for first year PSM students;
- End of Project Studies (Projet de Fin d’Etudes (PFE)) for second year PSM students.
Other accomplishments and trials will be implemented on the system by researchers at the Laboratory as part of their research.
Here are the 3 projects to be developed:
Virtual Investigation – final project by Jean-François Ferry and Julien Volle
This project involves the implementation of a video game concerning police investigations in the first person (FPS: First Person Search) in real time stereoscopic 3D .
The application will result in the development of a building containing a virtual crime scene, in which the player, equipped with stereoscopic goggles and infrared sensors, will virtually move in search of information they need to resolve the investigation.
The game will highlight an original concept of video play, an innovative Game Play using cutting edge technologies: stereoscopy and virtual reality.
Jardin Virtuel – final project by Olivier Ahdjoudj-Schorpp
This project consists of making a short film in computer generated stereoscopic graphics.
These computer generated graphics will attempt to recreate the poetry, symbolism and abstraction of a Japanese garden during a virtual walk. This film offers the viewer the opportunity of discovering the fauna and flora of the garden as well as the architecture of buildings in the company of a young girl named Aki.
At the heart of this achievement I will try to highlight the elusive aspect of reality by playing with the visual metaphor. The aim of the film was to push back the limits of our perception for a short instant and to introduce metaphysical reflection.
In this project, there are many 3D objects to be modelled, textured and animated. We can separate these objects into three groups, the main character and animals, plants and inanimate objects. There is also the management of liquid to be taken into account. Water plays an important role in this short film.
Immersion: final project by Elodie Bunaux
The primary goal of the Immersion project is to provide a new dimension to a work that is known to the general public but with which the public is technically unfamiliar.
It will also be a great tool for communication and support for learning. It breaks the static aspect of Art so as to deal with it in a more intuitive manner. It simplifies the understanding of the work.
It leads to, in addition, to experience a painting in a decidedly new way. Immersion is a project primarily aimed at Art and the User.
